New project: waste wood pre-treatment line in Sweden

The project began in November 2023, with installation underway and set to finish by November 2024.

Azortum is responsible for designing and building the pre-treatment line, which processes waste wood into biofuel for the co-generation plant. This upgrade supports Jämtkraft's goal of reducing waste and boosting sustainable energy use.

Azortum's role in creating the new plant

As the main contractor, Azortum is responsible for the engineering, design, and installation of the waste wood pre-treatment line.

Meeting the 75% recycling goal required a specialized approach: we developed a custom 2.1-meter-wide conveyor with an overall width of 3 meters, equipped with a triple-motor shredding system capable of handling high volumes without blockages. This bespoke solution was essential to match Jämtkraft's operational requirements, enabling the line to process material at a rate of 70 tons per hour.

Safety is a top priority. We integrated safety covers, sprinkler detection systems, and enhanced fire security to meet high safety standards, ensuring the line’s reliable performance in a demanding environment.

Challenges and looking ahead

Operating in Northern Sweden means designing the line to handle harsh winter conditions, with temperatures frequently below zero. The system is built to withstand these extremes. Installation is ongoing, with testing planned before Christmas 2024.
